On March 23, 1914, Mr. Gilchrist was united in marriage with Miss Mamie Nealon, the daughter of John and Catherine Nealon, of Scranton, Pa. They have five children: Robert M., Thomas W., Elizabeth, Charles W., and Sarah Jane.
Mr. Gilchrist is a Republican, a member of the Methodist Church, and Loyal Order of Moose. He is well and favorably known in Johnstown.

    D. W. Williams, superintendent of the schools of Nanty Glo, is a representative citizen of Cambria County. He was born at Pine Flat, Indiana County, Pa., June 12, 1881, and is the son of Evan and Sarah (Davis) Williams.
Evan Williams was born at Pine Flat, Pa., in September 1838, the son of Daniel and Mary (Waters) Williams, who were born near Cardiff, Wales, and who were pioneer settlers of Green Township, Indiana County, Pa. Daniel Williams was a blacksmith by trade in his native land and after his arrival in this country he followed the same trade for several years. He later was appointed superintendent of schools in Indiana County, and was the first man to examine and certificate teachers in that county. His son, Evan Williams, engaged in the lumber business and owned large tracts of land in Indiana County. He floated timber down Two Lick Creek to the Susquehanna River and from there it was shipped to various points throughout the country. He was a Democrat and attended the Christian Church. Mr. Williams died in 1895 and is buried at Pine Flat. His widow, who was born at Nicktown, Pa., in November, 1851, lives at Johnstown. She is the daughter of John D. and Mary (Griffith) Davis, also natives of Cardiff, Wales, and early settlers of Pittsburgh and Nicktown. Both are deceased, and buried in Lloyd Cemetery, Ebensburg. To Evan and Sarah (Davis) Williams seven children were born, as follows: Henrietta, married D. S. Boucher, lives in Pittsburgh; Rachel and Jesse H., both deceased; D. W., the subject of this sketch; Hayes J. and Elgene E., both deceased; and Alverda M., married W. S. Gardner, lives in Johnstown.
    D. W. Williams spent his boyhood in Pine Flat, Indiana County, and received his early education in the public schools of that place and Johnstown. He taught school in Jackson Township for one term and then entered Westchester Normal School, from which he was graduated in 1905. He then attended the Law School at the University of Michigan.
