    On Dec. 25, 1888, Mr. Patterson was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Ann Pearce, of Houtzdale, Pa., the daughter of George and Sarah Pearce, natives of England. Mr. and Mrs. Patterson have four children; Charles R., lives at Portage, married Verna McMonigal, of Portage; Eva L., married D. H. Hepner, an attorney, lives at Akron, Ohio, and they have three children, Eunice, Jeanne and Robert; Percy, lives at Portage, married Helen Vaughn, and they have a son, Robert; and Jeannette, lives at home, is a graduate of Portage High School and Lock Haven Normal School, teaches in the Portage schools.
    Politically Mr. Patterson is a Republican. He is a member of the United Brethren Church, Masonic Lodge, and Knights of Pythias. He is president of the Portage Civic Club and has served as a member of the school board and City Council. He is a substantial and excellent citizen.




    Leo J. Buettner is a substantial and highly esteemed young man of Johnstown. He was born in this city, Aug. 26, 1891, and is the son of Peter J. and Mary Buettner. Peter J. Buettner, who lives retired in Johnstown, was for many years identified with the bakery firm of Buettner Brothers.
    Leo J. Buettner received his education in the parochial school and attended Cambria Business College. He was employed by the P. C. Schuler Ice Cream Company for three years, after which he was appointed assistant to the city clerk, under John W. Kramer. In 1917 he assumed his present duties as secretary of the City Planning Commission. He is also identified with the Department of Parks and Public Property, Municipal Recreation Committee, Bureau of City Assessment, Shade Tree Commission, and is manager of the municipal swimming pool.
    Mr. Buettner's efforts along civic improvement lines as introduced in the public schools, with the assistance of Professor Riddle, caused widespread comment and he was called before the American Civic Congress in Chicago to tell of his experiences. He also received recognition form the National Recreation Congress at Atlantic City, being the first man from Johnstown to be honored by two national associations in one year.
