the organizer of playground work in Johnstown. He is secretary of the Good Cheer Committee, of which he was the founder. This committee is in charge of the entertainment of the inmates of the Tubercular Sanitarium and County Farm.
    Mr. Buettner is a member of the Lions Club, Knights of St. George, Loyal Order of Moose, Sportsmen's Club, and National Recreation Congress of Yellow Dogs. He is a director of the Pennsylvania Housing and Town Planning Association, and secretary of the Pennsylvania Association of City Planning Commissioners.
    Mr. Buettner is a Republican and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He has always manifested a keen interest in the material growth and beautification of Johnstown, to which he devotes his entire time and energy.




    E. E. Hughes, assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Portage, has held this executive position since 1917, and is recognized as a prominent citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Summerhill Township, Cambria County, Sept. 24, 1888, and is the son of I. J. and Matilda (Roberts) Hughes.
    I. J. Hughes, deceased, was born in Cambria County in 1858, the son of John T. Hughes, who emigrated to this country from Wales at an early age and settled in Cambria County, where he died in 1889. I. J. Hughes followed general farming and stock raising during his life, and for 14 years was identified with the agricultural department of the State of Pennsylvania. He died in 1924 and is buried in Lloyd's Cemetery, Ebensburg. He was a lifelong member of the Congregational Church and served as deacon for many years. Politically he was a Republican and served as school director for 32 years. Matilda (Roberts) Hughes was born in Cambria Township, Cambria County, in 1859, the daughter of John and Margaret (Williams) Roberts, natives of Wales and early settlers of Cambria County. She resides at Wilmore. To I. J. and Matilda (Roberts) Hughes the following children were born: Florence, married D. W. Jones, lives in Cambria Township; Wallace, cashier of the Union Deposit Bank, South Fork; E. E., the subject of this sketch; Elmer, lives in Summerhill Township, Cambria County; Miriam, married Dr. S. D. Boucher, Portage; Charlotte, married C. J.
