married Richard McKensie; Cordelia, married G. R. Fagan; C. C., lives at Barnesboro; Callistus M., died in infancy; Walter lives at Indiana, Pa.; and O. P., the subject of this sketch. John Henry Ellis is a well known and substantial citizen of Emeigh. He was born near Sharon, in Mercer County, Pa., March 20, 1873, and is a son of Richard and Grace (Harris) Ellis. Richard Ellis, deceased, was a native of England. When he was 25 years of age he came to this country and worked in the mines of Pennsylvania. His widow, was born in England in 1848, resides at Emeigh with her son John Henry. To Mr. and Mrs. Ellis five children were born: Emily, deceased; John Henry, the subject of this sketch; William Joseph, died in infancy; Thomas James lives at Youngstown, Ohio; and Albert R., deceased. John Henry Ellis was reared and educated in Mercer County, and when a young man removed to Elk County and later to Clearfield County. In 1901 he came to Cambria County and lived at Saint Benedict, where he worked in the mines. He is now employed at Emeigh Run Mine and also conducts a confectionery business at Emeigh, and operates a gasoline filling station at the latter place. In 1893, Mr. Ellis was married to Miss Laura Bell Hockman of Dubois, Pa., the daughter of David and Christina (Heckman) Hockman, both deceased.
