HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1053

    T. P. Burns received his education in the schools of Pine Township, Indiana County, and lived on the home place until he was 20 years of age, when he became associated with the Dunlo Lumber Company at Dunlo, Pa. In 1900 he came to Nanty Glo, where he became associated in the meat business with his brother, Edward. The business was later incorporated and Mr. Burns was elected president and treasurer. He was one of the organizers of the Union Bank of Nanty Glo and has served as its president since the time of its organization. He is also the founder of the Nanty Glo Smokeless Coal Company, of which he is president and treasurer, and he is president of the Nanty Glo Lumber & Construction Company.
    Mr. Burns is a Republican and has served as city councilman. He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elks Lodge, No. 175, Johnstown, and Loyal Order of Moose. The Burns family is well known throughout Cambria County and representative of the best citizenship of the community.




    Dr. Howard A. Collins, a prominent and successful physician of Nanty Glo, is a veteran of the World War. He was born at Williamsport, Pa., Feb. 6, 1871, and is the son of William and Mary (Winner) Collins.
    William Collins, deceased, was a native of Williamsport, and the son of Isaac and margaret (Dominy) Collins. Isaac Collins was a prominent agriculturist of Loyalstock Township, Lycoming County, Pa. He was the son of William Collins, who came from Doylestown, Pa., to Lycoming County. William Collins, father of the subject of this sketch, engaged in general farming and stock raising during his entire life. He died in 1909 and his wife died in 1901. He was a Republican, and held many township offices. He was a deacon in the Methodist Church. To William and Mary (Winner) Collins 12 children were born, as follows: Albert, deceased; Mary Jane, married George Casselberry, lives in Philadelphia; Cyrus M., lives at Williamsport; Irene, married Oliver P. Stahl, lives at Williamsport; Alexander, deceased; one child died in infancy; Jefferson A., deceased; Anna, married Orrie Osmer, lives at Montoursville, Pa.; Herman, died in 1881; W. Sherman, lives at Atlantic City, N. J.; Sarah, deceased, was the wife of Ambrose Hyman, Williamsport; and Dr. H. A., the subject of this sketch.
