Dr. H. A. Collins attended the public schools of Lycoming County and was graduated from Muncey Normal School in 1891, and from Williamsport Commercial College in 1893. He received his degree from Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, in 1896, and engaged in practice at Morrisdale, Pa. In 1907 he removed to Winburne, Pa., and in May, 1917, volunteered for service in the World War and was sent to Fort Oglethrope, Ga., as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Medical Corps. He was attached to the 6th Training Battalion and sent to Camp Upton, N. Y., as a member of the 350th Ambulance Company, 302nd Sanitary Train, 77th Division. Doctor Collins was discharged in April, 1919, and located at Cresson, where he served as resident physician of the Cresson Sanitarium. In the fall of 1919 he removed to Nanty Glo and located in his present office. He has built up an extensive practice and is a capable and progressive man in his profession.
In 1893 Doctor Collins was united in marriage with Miss Della M. Wise, a daughter of James T. and Sarah E. (Manhart) Wise, natives of Lycoming County. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wise died Dec. 19, 1924 and are buried at Montoursville, Pa. To Doctor and Mrs. Collins four children were born: Leroy F., married Catherine Grebe, lives at Williamsport; Chalmers DaCosta, deceased; Margaret Vivian, married Homer Artley, lives at Montoursville; and Sarah Elizabeth, at home.
Doctor Collins is a Republican, a member of the Methodist Church and American Legion, Johnstown. He served as president of the Clearfiield County Medical Society.
A. W. Hoy, a substantial business man of Johnstown, is a native of Cambria County. He was born at Conemaugh, May 7, 1879, and is the son of John and Mary (Bimeal) Hoy.
John Hoy, deceased, was born at Conemaugh and spent his entire life in Cambria County. At the time of his death in 1917 he was the oldest engineer in the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad. His wife was born in Bavaria and was brought to this country by her parents when she was two weeks old. They made the voyage on a sailing vessel and spent six months on the ocean. She died Nov. 27, 1925, at the age of 75 years. To Mr. and Mrs. Hoy six children were born: Michael, an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad, lives at Conemaugh; Mary; A. W. the subject of
