    A. W. Hoy attended the parochial schools of Conemaugh and when a boy of 12 years learned the carpenter trade with Samuel Rock, in whose employ he remained for nine years. He then was employed as a carpenter by the Pennsylvania Railroad on the Windber Branch for 14 months, after which he spent two years with Frank Smith, local contractor and builder. In 1907 Mr. Hoy established the Hoy House Moving Company, which is located at 389 Maple Avenue. The officers are: A. W. Hoy, president and treasurer; and William Clendaniel, secretary.
    On Nov. 11, 1904, Mr. Hoy was united in marriage with Miss Frieda Frischkorn, the daughter of Joseph and Annie Frischkorn, natives of Germany, and early settlers of Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy have five children: Marguerite, married John McCloskey, lives in Franklin, Pa.; Frieda, married Anthony Lopeck, lives in Johnstown; Madaline, Evelyn, and A. W., Jr., all at home.
    Mr. Hoy and his family are members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Conemaugh and he is affiliated with the Loyal Order of Moose.




    B. J. Bowers, principal of Washington School, Johnstown, Pa., is a widely known educator of Western Pennsylvania. He was born in Perry County, Pa., Feb. 3, 1864, and is a son of David B. and Diana (Hopple) Bowers.
    David B. Bowers was a native of Pennsylvania, as was also his wife. He was a successful farmer and stockman of perry County. He died June 16, 1922, at the age of 80 years and six months, and his wife died July 1, 1920, at the age of 75 years.
    B. J. Bowers attended the district schools of Perry County and was graduated from Loysville High School. He then attended school for two years at Tressler's Orphan Home School, Loysville, but as a pay student. The next two years were spent at Bloomfield Academy, Bloomfield, Pa., after which he taught school for two years in Perry County. He then attended and was graduated from the Shippensburg State Normal School in 1892. He was appointed principal of the Highspire High School in Dauphin County, Pa., where he served for two years.
