buried in Grand View Cemetery, Johnstown. To Mr. and Mrs. Stutzman were born 10 children, as follows: Jennie, born in February, 1876, died in infancy; Harry, born in January, 1878, died Aug. 30, 1878; Maud, born in 1880, died in 1883; Charles E., born May 21, 1881, died in June, 1918; W. A., a biography of whom appears in this volume; Carl L., born May 22, 1885, lives in Johnstown, married Elsie Hershberger, and they have two sons, Eugene and Charles; Dwight, born in July, 1887, died in October, 1918, was the husband of Bertha Imler, who also died in 1918; Blair O., born in May, 1889, a jeweler, lives in Binghampton, N. Y., married Shirley Conway; Grace, born in May, 1891, married E. E. Kiper, lives in Johnstown, and has five children, Dorothy, Edward, William, Richard and James; and Catherine, born in 1895, at home.
    Abraham Stutzman, father of A.F. Stutzman, subject of our sketch, was born in October, 1807, on the farm of his father, Jacob Stutzman, who at that time owned what is now the First Precinct of the Eighth Ward of Johnstown. He was a blacksmith by trade and for a number of years was engaged in the making of steel knives and other edged tools; his shop was located near the corner of what is now Main and Bedford streets, and he was the only known blacksmith in this section making edged tools, a knife being in possession of A. F. Stutzman, his son, at this time. He also farmed and owned 235 acres of land in Cambria County, which he improved. He was a Republican and held many public offices in his time. Mr. Stutzman died in 1884, and his wife died in 1898. Both are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, at Delta, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Stutzman had the following children: Susan, married George W. Crissman, both deceased; Jacob, who was a veteran of the Civil was and was on Sherman's march, married Jane Hildebrand, both deceased; Catherine, married Jonathan Berkebile, both deceased; Tobias, married Salome Miller, both deceased; Lydia, married Daniel J. Miller, a Civil war veteran; Sarah, the widow of David Berkebile, who was a Civil war veteran, lives at Wauseon, Ohio; Hannah, the widow of A. W. Blauch, a Civil war veteran, lives at Westmont, Pa.; and A. F., the subject of this sketch, who is in his seventy-eighth year, and while still active in his business, his son, W. A. Stutzman, has been managing the business since 1918, at which time he purchased an interest in it.
    A. F. Stutzman has always been a Republican. He is a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church and is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge.
