W. A. Stutzman, of A. F. Stutzman & Son, Johnstown, Pa., is one of the progressive business men of this section of the state. He was born in Johnstown, May 23, 1883, and is a son of A. F. and Maria (Frazier) Stutzman, a sketch of whom appears in this history.
W. A. Stutzman was reared in Johnstown and received his education in the public schools here. He remained at home and was employed in his father's store until he was 22 years old, when he became a traveling salesman for the Conklin Wagon Company of Olean, N. Y. In 1916 he became manager of that plant. Two years later he resigned his position with the Conklin Wagon Company and came to Johnstown and bought an interest in the business with his father, of which he has since been manager.
Mr. Stutzman was married, April 23, 1903, to Ella Kring, a native of Johnstown, born May 11, 1886. She is a daughter of David and Sarah (Gramling) Kring, natives of Saliz, Pa., and both reside in Johnstown, Mrs. Stutzman is the elder of two children. Hersister, Mrs. Ned Postle, resides in California. Mrs. Stutzman is a graduate of Johnstown High School.
To Mr. and Mrs. Stutzman four children have been born: Wadena, a graduate of Johnstown High School, class of1924, is an accomplished musician, playing the saxophone, cello and piano, married Jacob Gruber, Jr., and they reside in Johnstown, Pa.; Kathryn, a graduate of the Johnstown High School, class of 1926, is also a musician and an elocutionist of note; Bessie K., died in infancy; and Paul K., died in infancy.
Mr. Stutzman is president of the Southwestern Division of the Wholesale and Retail Merchants' Association, also vice president of the Retail Association of Pennsylvania. He is vice president of the Merchants' Credit Bureau Association of Johnstown. Politically he is a Republican and is a member of the First Evangelical Church. He is a member of the Elks and the United Commercial Travelers.
F. Carl White ranks among the prominent young business men of Johnstown, where he is manager of the Fuller Brush Company, with offices at 906 First National Bank Building. He was born at Tappan, Ohio, Jan 16,1897, and is a son of F. W. and Mary (Barr) White, both deceased. They were residents of Tappan, where Mr. White was a hotel keeper for many years.
