HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY | 1075 | |
F. Carl White received his early education in the schools of Tappan, Ohio, and then worked in the mines and at farming for a time. He learned the machinist's trade and worked in the oil fields of Texas for two years. In 1921 he went to Pittsburgh, where he was employed by the Fuller Brush Company. He was promoted to field manager of the company at their Cumberland, Md., branch, and in June, 1925, came to Johnstown as manager. John C. Blimmel, who is connected with the Cambria Brewing Company, Cambria City, as assistant manager, is a representative citizen of his community. He was born in Johnstown, Nov. 23, 1866, and is a son of George and Mary (Heckman) Blimmel. George Blimmel was born in Bavaria and came to America in 1854, when 19 years of age. He worked as a coal miner in Cambria County. He and his wife are both deceased. After attending the parochial school of St. Mary's, Cambria City, John C. Blimmel became associated with his father in coal mining. When 22 years of age he was manager of the Fifth Avenue Hotel, which was one of the old and good hotels of its time, located at Fifth and Broad streets, Cambria City. Later Mr. Blimmel bought this hotel and was its owner and manager for a period of 25 years. In 1919 he came to his present position. On Nov. 15, 1892, Mr. Blimmel was united in marriage with Miss Rose McDonnell, a daughter of James and Mary McDonnell, of Cokesville, both of whom are deceased. To Mr. and Mrs. Blimmel have been born seven children: Mary, Margaret, George, William, Anna, Elizabeth and John Jr. Mr. Blimmel is a Republican, a member of the Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, and belongs to the Elks, Moose, Turners, Sunnehanna Country Club. He has served as a member of the city council, and belongs to the Knights of St. George and has been its president for 20 years. He is a good business man and an excellent citizen. |
