To Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Wright have been born nine children, as follows: Walter, a clerk in his father's store; Hartley C., a veteran of the World war, manager of his father's store and postmaster of Salix; Isaac, a traveling salesman; Alice, married Christian Long, Bedford County, Pa.; Emma, married Harry Oldham, Bedford County, Pa., Dr. George F., a physician at Conemaugh, Pa.; Ross, in the garage business at Salix; Guy, in his father's store; and Lucille, married Charles Horner, Salix. F. E. Bigler. Among the younger generation of Johnstown's successful business men is F.E. Bigler, local manager of G.R. Kinney Company, Inc. He was born at Philadelphia, Pa., June 25, 1895, and is a son of Charles E. and Edith (Neice) Bigler, both of whom are living at Pottsville, Pa., where Mr. Bigler owns and operates a chain of 12 barber shops. F. E. Bigler was educated in the public schools of Pottsville and in 1912 started to work for his present company at Pottsville, with whom he remained until he enlisted for service in the World war on April 6, 1917. He was sent to Camp Hancock, Augusta, Ga., with Company D, One Hundred Third Engineers, Twenty-eighth Division, with which company he served. The Twenty-eighth was one of the outstanding divisions in the A.E.F. After his discharge he returned to Pottsville, where he remained until 1920, when he came to Johnstown as manager. G. R. Kinney Company, Inc. are the largest shoe retailers in the world. The company was first organized in 1893 by G. R. Kinney, at Waverly, N.Y. They now operate 257 stores, three of which are outside the United States. They have six factories, which are located at Palmyra, Pa.; Carlisle, Pa.; Millersburg, Pa., and Huntington, W. Va. The Johnstown store was opened in 1916 and employs seven people. On July 25, 1920, Mr. Bigler was married to Miss Elizabeth Shomo, a daughter of Harry A. and Mynette Lois Shomo of Pottsville. Mr. Shomo is sales manager of the Meridan Biscuit Company at Pottsville. Mr. and Mrs. Bigler have a daughter, Florence Jeanne, born Aug. 17, 1921. Mr. Bigler is a Democrat, a member of St. John's Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus, third degree. |
