HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1087

    Ludwig Wirtz, Jr., is a prominent citizen of Johnstown, where he is identified with the Johnstown School of Violin. He was born in Essen, Germany, June 15, 1879, and is a son of Ludwig and Gertrude (Hoffman) Wirtz.
    In 1884 the Wirtz family emigrated to the United States from Germany and settled in Philadelphia. They removed to Johnstown in 1890.
    Ludwig Wirtz, Jr., was educated in the public schools and in early life manifested a keen interest in the study of music. Since 1910 he has been identified with the professional music circles of Johnstown and he has established an excellent reputation as a teacher of the violin. Before organizing his school, Mr. Wirtz was connected with the Johnstown College of Music.
    On Jan. 24, 1900, Mr. Wirtz was married to Miss Margaret B. Suttmiller, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Suttmiller. They have four children: Ludwig Francis, lives in Los Angeles, Cal.; Lionel Vincent; Margaret B., married Charles N. Heims, and they have a son, Charles; and Ida. A son, Robert Charles, is deceased.
    Mr. Wirtz is a Democrat and a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He has an extensive acquaintance in Johnstown, is highly esteemed and recognized as a master of his art.




    Arthur E. Hanna, district manager of the Royal Typewriter Company, Inc., is well and favorably known in Johnstown. He was born at Newark, Ohio, March 24, 1888, and is a son of Perry and Margaret E. (Vought) Hanna. The father followed farming during his active life and is now living retired. The mother is deceased.
    Arthur E. Hanna was educated in the public and high schools of Newark, Ohio, and Fairfield Union Academy at Pleasantville, Ohio. He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad offices at Pittsburgh, where he remained for 13 years, leaving this company to engage in the printing business for himself. Three years later Mr. Hanna became associated with the Royal Typewriter Company, Inc., at Pittsburgh, and in 1911 came to Johnstown as district manager.
    The Royal Typewriter Company, Inc., was organized in 1902 and the home office is at Hartford, Conn. George Edward Smith is president of the company. The Johnstown branch, which is located in the Swank
