HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1091

    George W. Briggs is an enterprising business man of Johnstown, where he is manager of the Johnstown Soap Company. He was born in Luzerne County, Pa., July 30, 1873, and is the son of Freeman and Anna (Andrews) Briggs.
    Freeman Briggs was a native of Luzerne County, where he spent many years as a superintendent of a hard coal mine. He died in 1901, and his widow, also a native of that county, lives at Nescopeck, Pa.
    George W. Briggs received his education in the public school of Wilkes-Barre and attended Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, Pa. He then became interested in the soap business of Pottsville. He has been connected with various companies, and since March 14, 1925, has been identified with the Johnstown Soap Company, 440 North Sheridan Street, and are extensive manufacturers of soap, washing powders for household purposes, etc. Their chief product is known as "Helping Hand Soap." The officers of the Johnstown Soap Company are: W. W. Bailey, president; Cyrus L. Wissinger, vice president; J. A. Stutzman, secretary; and Dr. E. J. Burkhardt, treasurer. The directors consist of the above named officers and Lyman Sherbine, R. W. Beck, and Andrew R. Urban.
    On Dec. 28, 1897, Mr. Briggs was married to Miss Cora Ulsh, of Berrysburg, Pa., the daughter of George and Miriam Ulsh, both deceased. They have two sons: John; and C. W., who is associated with the Johnstown Soap Company.
    Mr. Briggs is a Republican and is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge, Commandery and Shrine. He has a wide acquaintance in Cambria County and is well liked.




    C. M. Wissinger. One of the best known of the younger business men of South Fork is C. M. Wissinger, treasurer and manager of the Pennsylvania Lumber and Construction Company. He was born at Conemaugh, Aug. 22, 1899, and is the son of W. E. and Maud (Davis) Wissinger.
    W. E. Wissinger was born in Richland Township, Cambria County, and for a number of years has been identified with the real estate business of Johnstown, where he is associated with the Greater Johnstown Development Company. His wife is also a native of Richmond Township, where they reside.
    C. M. Wissinger attended the public schools of Conemaugh and Ebensburg and was graduated from Johnstown High School in 1917. After a
