HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY 1117

    Mr. Strayer was married to Miss Myrtle L. Seese, of Bedford County, Pa. They have four children: Kenneth, superintendent of mill work for Strayer & Company, is a World War veteran; Leah, Florence and Edward, all at home. There are two grandchildren: Kenneth and James Strayer.
    Mr. Strayer is a Republican and is a member of the Church of the Brethren. He stands high in the community and has many friends and acquaintances.




    Arthur Griffith is a progressive and enterprising business man of Johnstown, where he is extensively engaged in the real estate and insurance business. He was born in Wales, July 5, 1863, and is the son of John F. and Mary (Whitney) Griffith.
    John F. Griffith, deceased, emigrated to this country from Wales with his family in 1865. He settled in Johnstown, where he was successfully engaged in the coal business for 45 years. He was a Republican, a member of the Welch Baptist Church, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Griffith died in 1907 and is buried in Grand View Cemetery, Johnstown. His wife was a native of Wales, born in 1839. She died Nov. 7, 1925. She was the oldest member on age and membership of the Memorial Baptist Church. To Mr. and Mrs. Griffith five children were born: Francis, lives in Bethlehem, Pa.; Arthur, the subject of this sketch; Elizabeth, married H. C. Benford, lived in Johnstown; Benjamin, lives in Johnstown; And Silas, a farmer, lives in Beaver County, Pa.
    Arthur Griffith was educated in the public schools of Johnstown and at an early age learned the machinist trade. He was employed by the Cambria Steel Company for a number of years and served as chief electrician at the Cambria plant for ten years. He was registering recorder of Cambria County for two terms and in 1912 established his real estate and insurance business, with offices in the Title Building. Mr. Griffith is also a director of the Title Trust & Guarantee Company and the Moreville Deposit Bank.
    In politics Mr. Griffith is identified with the Republic party. He is a member of the knights of Pythias, of which order he is past chancellor. Also a member of Johnstown Turn-Verein, Woodmen of the World and a charter member of the Elks Lodge. He is chairman of the board of appeals of the city zoning committee. He has a wide acquaintance on Cambria County and is favorably known.
