Johnstown; Dorothy, a graduate nurse, married John Hedding, lives in Johnstown; and Alonzo Jackson, engaged in business with his father.
    In October, 1912, Mr. McAllister married Miss Anna Louise Kriger, of Kansas, and to them have been born their children: Jane Louise, Alonzo, And Charles.
    Mr. McAllister is identified with the Republican party in and politics and he and his family hold membership in the Methodist Church.




    J. D. Strayer, president of Strayer & Company, extensive lumber dealers of Johnstown, is esteemed throughout Cambria County as a prominent and successful business man. He was born on a farm in Richland Township, Cambria County, March 26, 1866, and is the son of John A. and Susanna (Dickey) Strayer.
    John A. Strayer, deceased, was a substantial citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Richland Township, and for many years was successfully engaged in the contracting and lumber business in Johnstown. He was a Democrat and a member of the Church of the Brethren.     To Mr. and Mrs. Strayer the following children were born: Sylvester, deceased; Ephrium, lives in Buffalo, N.Y.; Andrew J., engaged in the contracting and building business in Johnstown; Sadie, deceased, was the wife of Joseph Kintner, lives in Johnstown; J. D., the subject of the sketch; Benjamin, lives in Johnstown; Julia Ann, married John Powell, lives in Johnstown; Lizzie, married Milton Metzger, lives in Cambria County; P. C., lives in Johnstown; and Anna, married Rev. James F. Yock, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, Tyrone, Pa.
    J. D. Strayer attended the schools of Taylor Township and until he was 21 years of age was associated in the business with his father. He then formed a partnership with his brother, Ephrium, and the firm was known as E. Strayer & Brother. They conducted this lumber and contracting business for about nine years, after which Mr. Strayer spent six years in New York City. Upon his return to Johnstown he conducted a lumber business until May, 1919, when Strayer & Company was organized by Mr. Strayer and F. P. Ritter, who is now general manager of the business. Mr. Strayer has been president of the company since 1922. Strayer & Company are general lumber and mill supply dealers and have an extensive business throughout the county.
