On Sept. 15, 1920, Mr. Slick was married to Miss Marian Statler, a native of Johnstown, born Oct. 10, 1896, the daughter of Norman Statler. Mr. and Mrs. Slick have two children: Harriet Belle, born in 1921; and Norman Statler, born in 1922. Alonzo McAllister, proprietor of the McAllister Manufacturing Company and the Whistle Bottling Company, is on of Johnstown's most successful and widely known business men. He was born in Cambria County, Nov. 19, 1862, and is the son of Nathan and Barbara Anna (Black) McAllister. Nathan McAllister, deceased, was a veteran of the Civil war. He was born in Maine and at an early date settled at Ebensburg, in Cambria County, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a Republican and a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. His wife died in 1923. To Mr. and Mrs. McAllister four sons were born: David, lives at Portland, Maine; William, deceased; Alonzo, the subject of this sketch; and Amos, lives in Oregon. Alonzo McAllister began his business career in the employ of the Cambria Steel Company as a mule driver, receiving $1.10 per day as wages, and having walked to Johnstown from his home town to secure the work. He remained in the employ of the Cambria Steel Company for 12 years, after which he engaged in the dairy business for five years. He was an ice cream manufacturer and later opened a hotel. His next business venture was in the bottling of soft drinks, and Mr. McAllister is the promoter and owner of the Whistle Bottling Company, makers of the famous soft drink "Whistle". The McAllister Manufacturing Company are manufacturers of soft drinks and beverages, as well as horseradish. Mr. McAllister was married first to Miss Elizabeth Lovely, of Johnstown, who died Sept. 2 1909, leaving the following children: Mary Nellie, married Charles Lininger, lives at Moxham; Freida, married Edward McVicker, lives in Johnstown; Paul, a veteran of the World war, lives in |
