University of Pittsburgh. He began his teaching career in the schools of Wallingford, Conn., where he later served as assistant superintendent for three years. He went from there to Bridgeport, Conn., where he served as a teacher three years and three years as principal. In October, 1917, Mr. Stack enlisted in the service during the World War and was sent to Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas, with the 110th Squadron. He was commissioned a first lieutenant and served overseas for eleven months. He was wounded while in the army. Mr. Stack was discharged March 1, 1919, and returned to Bridgeport, Conn., as principal of the public schools. In September, 1922, he assumed his position in Johnstown as superintendent of secondary schools.
On June 24, 1922, Mr. Stack was united in marriage with Miss Frances Elizabeth Richtmeyer, of Roxbury, N.Y., and a graduate of Elmyra (N.Y.) College and Columbia University. They have a daughter, Elizabeth Virginia, born in Johnstown.
Mr. Stack is a Republican and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He is active in Y. M. C. A. work and the American Legion. Mr. Stack is thoroughly capable in his work and is intensely interested in every movement for civic improvement.
Percy Allen Rose, an attorney and financier, is recognized as one of the representative members of the bar of Cambria County, and a member of a family which has been prominently identified with this county for eight generations. He is a son of W. Horace and Margaret Ann (Ramsey) rose, and was born in Johnstown, April 22, 1875.
Hon W. Horace Rose is of Scotch-Irish descent as is also Mrs. Rose. He was born in Johnstown, Nov. 17, 1838, the son of Allen and Elizabeth (Freame) Rose. Allen Rose, a son of William Rose, was born in Bedford County, Pa., March 20, 1793, and removed with his parents from there to Jenner's Cross Roads, Somerset County, Pa., shortly after which he was in Ohio. After a short time in Ohio he was for a brief period a resident of McKeesport, Pa. He finally settled in Somerset County, purchasing a grist mill in 1826, at Jenners Cross Roads. He operated this mill two years and in 1828 came to what was then called the town of Conemaugh, but since 1834 known as Johnstown. At this place Mr. rose was engaged as contractor and builder.
