Doctor Rishell is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Masonic Lodge, Acasia Club of Philadelphia, Theta Psi Fraternity, and Crimson and Gold Club, Philadelphia. During his college career he was interested in athletics, being a member of the varsity basket ball and track teams. James Richard Flatley, who is engaged in the insurance business, with offices at 410 Johnstown Trust Building, is a native of Pennsylvania. He was born in Pittsburgh, March 8, 1894, and is a son of John M. and Katherine (Dunn) Flatley. John M. Flatley was born in County Mayo, Ireland, in September, 1855. He was a graduate of Tuam College, Dublin, and taught school in Ireland. His wife was born in Manchester, England, where they were married. They came to the United States during President Gargield's administration, locating in Pittsburgh. Mr. Flatley went into the steel business, being with Jones & Laughlin Company, as a blast furnace man. He went through the various grades and became superintendent of the Soho department of this company, which was a very responsible position. Mr. Flately died Aug. 15, 1920, and is buried in Cavalry Cemetery, Pittsburgh. His widow resides in Pittsburgh. Mr. Flately was a Republican and a member of St. Stephen's and St. Brosalia churches. Mr. and Mrs. Flatley were the parents of the following children: J.B., chief adjuster of the Pittsburgh branch of the Travelers Insurance Company, Pittsburgh; Thomas F., superintendent of the South Side plant of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Company; Leo F., claim department, Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company; William J., superintendent of the M. C. Railroad, all residing in Pittsburgh; M. D., deceased, buried in Cavalry Cemetery, Pittsburgh, was a stock broker: James Richard, the subject of this sketch; Mary, married Ed Ringheiser, chief electrical engineer, Carnegie Steel Company, reside in Homestead; Katherine, at home; Helen, student at Giles College; Ann, at home; and Cecelia, married Joseph Greib, Pittsburgh. Mr. Greib is a stock raiser and owns a bakery business. James Richard Flatley received his early education in the public schools of Pittsburgh. He was graduated from high school in 1910, and Duquesne University in 1914, after which he studied at the University of West Virginia and Allegheny College. He began his business career as |
