DIED
On Sunday evening last, the 15th inst., at the Summit, in this county, ARCHIBALD SCOTT McCUNE, in the -- year of his age. [age not listed, only --]
The deceased was well known by the citizens of this county, and his loss will be much felt and regretted by his numerous relatives and friends. Possessed of a kind and gentle disposition, he was ever ready to respond to the calls of friendship, or the duties of a good citizen. When the war with Mexico summoned our volunteers to arms he cheerfully enrolled himself in the service of his country, and was only compelled to leave it when prostrated by disease at Vera Cruz. Since his return here his health had been partially restored, and during the last and preceding sessions of the Legislative he officiated as Assistant Messenger to the House of Representatives. Towards the close of the last session his constitution, naturally delicate, was compelled to give way to the rapid march of consumption which fully developed itself, and he was only enabled to reach the Summit where he terminated his earthly career surrounded by his relatives and friends. He was buried at the Summit on Tuesday with military honors by his fellow soldiers of the Cambria Guards, and followed to the grave by a large concourse of people, who thus testified their respect and esteem for him as a citizen and soldier. |
