SOURCE NOTATION:
Johnstown Tribune, 25 Sep 1880, Contributed by Sue Elliott

Obituary:

Mr. Henry Zimmerman, an old and well-known resident of Johnstown, died at his home on the corner of Locust and Jackson streets, Third Ward, about half-past 6 o'clock last evening, after an illness of several months. Deceased was born in the town of Biedenkopf, State of Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, about the year 1822. He learned the trade of carpenter and cabinet-maker and about the year 1846 arrived in this place, having been sent for by his brother Charles, who came in 1839 and established himself in business at cabinetwork. Henry worked for the latter some five years, and then went to Wilmore (or Jefferson, as it was called at that time) and started for himself in general wood-working, but after a few months returned to Johnstown and commenced employment for the Cambria Iron Company. For several years past he had charge of the saws in the old rail mill, at lucrative wages, and by economical habits he saved up some money. Within a year he was compelled to relinquish active work, and for the last two months he was almost constantly confined to his residence. He leaves a wife and several children, nearly all of the latter being grown up. The news of his death, although it had been expected for some time, will be learned with sorrow by those who knew him.

Notice:

The members of Alma Lodge No. 523 I.O.O.F. are requested to meet at their Hall, corner of Main and Franklin streets, at 2 o'clock sharp, to-morrow (Sunday) afternoon for the purpose of attending the funeral of our late brother, Henry Zimmerman, P.G., deceased. Also the members of Cambria and Conemaugh Lodges are respectfully invited to attend. James Thomas, Assistant Sec'y.
