CURTIS MEGREW IS DEAD OF TYPHOID

Well-Known Local Amateur Ballplayer Dies After Five Weeks' Illness

Curtis Megrew, a prominent young man of Dale Borough, is dead at his home, 239 David street, having expired between 6 and 7 o'clock this morning after an illness of typhoid fever lasting nearly five weeks. He was in his 24th year. He was a clerk in the office of the F. M. Shaffer Ice Company and left his desk one month ago last Wednesday. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, when services will be conducted by the Rev. J. Harvey Mickley, pastor of St. John's Reformed Church, with burial in Grandview Cemetery. The deceased was born December 3, 1891, being a son of Frank Megrew, of Golde Street, and Mrs. Donora {*sic: should be Genora} Horner Megrew, who died in this city five years ago last August. He was a native of this city. The deceased was graduated from the Dale High School and had since been employed in the office of the F. M. Shaffer Ice Company. The deceased was confirmed by the Rev. J. Harvey Mickley as a member of St. John's Reformed Church on April 16, 1905. He was one of the organizers of the John Calvin Bible Class of the Reformed Sunday school, of which Attorney William Williams is the teacher; was president of the class at one time and was manager of the Calvin team in the City Bible Class League here during the past season. He was an infielder and was one of the best hitters on the team. For a few seasons before joining the Calvin team he was a member of the Dale team in the Senior League of the Amateur Recreation Commission. Curtis Megrew and Miss Edythe Kyler, daughter of the late Frank Kyler, were married on Christmas, 1912, by the Rev. J. Harvey Mickley. Mrs. Megrew survives her husband, together with a son, Frank Megrew, aged 17 months, and Frank Megrew, the deceased's father. Curtis Megrew was a member of the Dale Council, No. 642, Junior Order United American Mechanics.
