Funeral services for the late William H. Skiles, aged 81 years, who died at his home in Wilmore yesterday morning, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Wilmore United Brethren Church by the Rev. H. A. Buffington, the pastor, with interment in the Lutheran Cemetery. Mr. Skiles was a veteran of the Civil War and was identified with aniel [sic - Daniel] W. Stineman Post, G. A. R. South Fork. He was one of three survivors of the Civil War residing Wilmore, the others being John Lingle, of the Eleventh Pennsylvania Cavalry, and Dr. I. C. Marsdell, of the Massachusettes Volunteers, both of them older than the deceased.

William Harrison Skiles was born in East Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, March 10, 1846, and was one of five brothers to serve in the Civil War. W. H. Skiles served two enlistments, the first in Company C, Second Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment, and the second one in Company F. 106th Regiment, P.V.I. His brothers referred to preceded him to the grave.

W. H. Skiles and Miss Mary E. Mellott were married in Fulton County in November, 1865, and went to housekeeping in Indiana County, and later resided for a short time in Fulton County. Late in the 60's Mr. Skiles came to Johnstown and worked in the Cambria Mills until 1873, when he went to Wilmore to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a track foreman there when he became a pensioner in 1911. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Skiles, three of whom, Mrs. J. D. Wadsworth, of Lilly, Mrs. Simon F. Blackburn, of Wilmerding, and W. I, Skiles, of Pitcairn, are living. Mrs. Skiles passed away at Wilmore on March 12, 1911. Mrs. Charles Dugan, who died at Wilmore five months ago, was a daughter of the deceased. On April 2, 1912, W. H. Skiles and Mrs. Rachel Long were united in marriage. Her death occurred in September of that year. On August 24, 1922, Mr. Skiles and Mrs. Fannie Glasgow, of Munhall, were united in marriage. She survives him.

In politics, Mr. Skiles was a Republican. He served on several occasions as a school director, of Wilmore, where he was a Trustee of the United Brethren denomination.
