Four-Year-Old Son Of Oscar Dishong Is Killed At Vintondale Falling beneath the wheels of an auto truck of the Vinton Supply So., Robert Dishong, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Dishong of Vintondale, was instantly killed Tuesday afternoon, the child's body being crushed by the heavy vehicle and its load of slate. Oscar Dishongm father of the child, is brother of Amos Dishong, Nanty-Glo councilman, and is well-known in this borough. According to the story of witnesses to the accident, young Dishong, in company with several playmates, attepted to climb on the rear end of the truck while the machine was temporarily "stalled." Driver Bracken threw his machine into reverse in order to back a short distance and thereby obtain a new start with the load of slate which was being hauled from a mine near the Dishong home. The driver was unaware of the children on the rear end of his machine and failed to notice that the sudden backing of the machine threw the Dishong child beneath the rear wheel. Death was instantaneous. Mr. Dishong, as well as Dr. J. P. Macfarlane of vintondale, who were in the immediate vicinity, arrived within a short time. Upon obtaining the story of the unfortunate accident from eye-witnesses, Mr. Dishong absolved Mr. Bracken from all blame. The funeral will take place this afternoon from the Dishong residence, with burial near Bellwood. Coroner M. W. Swabb of Johnstown, announced today that an inquest will be held within a few days. |
