Priest's Mother Dies
Saturday evening last, Mrs. Bridget Graven, aged 82 years, who made her home with her only son, The Rev. Father James Graven, pastor of St. Xavier's Catholic church at Cresson, fell down the stairs at the parsonage and received injuries that resulted in death a short time later. Mrs. Graven had been in ill health for some time from diseases incident to old age and her system had become so greatly weakened that she was unable to withstand the severe shock.
Mark Garven, husband of the deceased, died in Girardville five years ago, where the family lived for many years. After the death of her husband, Mrs. Graven came to Cresson and has since made her home there with Father Graven.
The funeral services were held at St. Aloysius Catholic church at the Summit Monday morning at 8 o'clock. The officers of the mass were: The Rev. Father Graven, celebrant; Father Timothy Giblin, deacon; Father M. J. Canole, subdeacon; Father Philip Bohan preached the sermon; and Father Peter Fox, master of ceremonies.
Rt. Rev. Eugene A. Garvey, Bishop of the Altoona diocese and many priests from the dioceses of Altoona, Pittsburg and Philadelphia were in attendance.
The remains were taken to Ashland, Pa., where interment was made beside her deceased husband. |
