FUNERAL ON MONDAY FOR WILLIAM BYERS, NATIVE OF COUNTY
Funeral services for William H. Byers, 67, a native of Cambria County, who died at 2 o'clock Thursday morning at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will be conducted at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Davis Funeral Home, Franklin Street. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. The remains will arrive in Johnstown at 3:26 p.m. today.
Mr. Byers, better known to his relatives as "Uncle Billy" was born at Mundy's Corner, June 18, 1871, a son of Rev. William Byers and Mrs. Isabelle (Wilkinson) Byers. His father was a minister in the Brethren Church, preaching at Pike, Vinco and other Brethren churches in that section of the County.
William H. Byers resided in the old homestead until 1919, when he moved to Johnstown. He resided in the First Ward for a number of years. In March, 1924, he went to Alexandria, Va., where he held half interest in the Hotel Belvoir. A year later he sold that interest and has been located in Fort Lauderdale.
He and Miss Grace A. Singer were married June 30, 1896. Besides his widow, Mr. Byers leaves a daughter, Waive, and a son, Tom C. Byers, all of Fort Lauderdale. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Rachel Devlin and Mrs. [sic] Leah Byers, Johnstown, and Mrs. George B. Strayer, Fort Lauderdale. |
