EVANS. -- Died at his residence in Ebensburg, on Monday, April 65, 1886, Mr. Daniel O. Evans, aged seventy years.
The deceased was born in Montgomeryshine, Wales, in 1816 and resided there until the year 1840, having in the meantime learned the shoe-making trade from his father, who carried on the business in that country. In 1840, Mr. Evans came to this country and settled in Ebensburg, where he worked at his trade, and after a year or two, married a Miss Tudor, sister of Mr. Richard Tuder, of this place, who, however lived but a short time. In 1847, when the war broke out between this country and Mexico. Mr. Evans, who belonged to the military company here, went to Mexico, with the old Cambria Guards, under the late Captain Murray, performed his duties as a soldier until the end of the war, and returned home with the company. After his return he and Hon. Richard Jones carried on the tanning business for a number of years at the old tannery near Mr. David Shinkle's mill, on the outskirts of our town. After the dissolution of the partnership Mr. Evans, up to the time of his last illness, worked at his trade. In 1851 he married Miss Jane Evans, who bore him a number of children, seven of whom, two boys and five girls, are living and all of whom are grown up. Mrs. Evans died about ten years ago. Mr. Evans was a man of one appearance, honorable in his dealings, intelligent and well versed in general knowledge, was kind and social in his disposition, and will be greatly missed from the community. His funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock, and his remains were interred in Lloyd cemetery. Peace to his ashes. |
