OBITUARY.
About noon on Tuesday, the 9th inst., Mr. Michael Hasson breathed his last, at his residence in the Borough of Ebensburg, aged about 69 years.
Mr. Hasson was born in the county of Derry, Ireland. He graduated at Maynooth {?} College, and soon after sought a home in this country. After spending a few years in teaching, he entered the office of the late M. D. Magehan Esq. as a student at law, and was admitted to practice in the several Courts of this county, at April Term, 1811.
Since that period, besides performing the extraordinary duties of his profession, he has filled the office of District Attorney and Register and Recorder; and has also represented the county in the lower branch of the legislature.
Mr. Hasson had a profound, rather then a showy education -- was a proficient in mathematics, and, (as Maynooth graduates usually are,) was well versed in classic lore. He never sought any display of his acquirements; but rather indulged in a sententious humor, very attractive to his friends, and his witty saying have passed into common-place all over this commonwealth. At time his irony was most severe, and his sarcastic repartee was dreaded by those who crossed his path; yet, there was always a kindness in his nature that more than atoned the offense.
No man could be more illy spared from the small circle of our village society, and his demise will leave a void never to be filled at the Bar or in society; but principally in the centre of his own household a vacancy has been created which will be long felt and remembered -- may he rest in peace. |
