STOYESTOWN FEELS LOSS IN MR. MILLERS DEATH A Self-Made Man, Who Rose to Prominence as Stock Dealer, Many Persons at Funeral With the death of Pierson Miller, a notice of which appeared in The Tribune a few days ago. Stoyestown has lost one of its most prominent citizens. A self-made man, known and respected throughout the western part of Pennsylvania, especially throughout this and adjoining counties. Born of humble but very respectable parents on a farm two and one-half miles north of Stoyestown on April 9, 1853, the boyhood of the deceased was spent under the Christian care of his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah J. Miller. From an unusual fondness and interest in his stock throughout his boyhood, Mr. Miller developed into a stock dealer at the age of 18 by buying a few head of cattle with his own ___________. to the business beyond the ordinary, a few years made him one of the most prominent stock dealer in this section of the state. At one time D. B. Zimmerman, the Somerset coal magnate was a partner with Mr. Miller in the stock business for a few years. Later the only brother of the deceased, Charles N. Miller, of this place, was associated with him in business. Two and One-half years ago, Mr. Miller was stricken with paralysis, from which he partly recovered in Mercy Hospital, Johnstown. He remained almost helpless and totally speechless up to two days before his death, when he became entirely helpless and death ensued. Pierson Miller is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Emma Bender, of Stoyestown. Also by the following survivors, covering four generations to in an unusual manner. One daughter, Mrs. H. J. Specht; one grandson, Lloyd Specht, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Specht. Helen Louise Specht, one great-granddaughter two weeks old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Specht; also one brother, Charles N. Miller, all of Stoyestown. Pierson Miller was a member of the Lutheran church, who pastor, the Rev. J. D. English, conducted the services. He was also a member of Stoyestown Lodge, I. O. O. F., which had charge of the funeral. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Out of town persons who attended the funeral of Pierson Miller were the following: Mr. and Mrs. J. Milton Taylor and son, Dick of Pittsburg; Miss Nettie Bender, Pittsburg; Bertrum Thompson, Braddock; Mrs. Thomas Mayes and daughter, Bellefonte; Mr. and Mrs. William H. Rink, Johnstown; Mr. and Mrs. Rus Ober, Johnstown; Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Specht, Johnstown; Charles Specht, Jr., Johnstown; Mrs. H. C. Michaels, Johnstown; Mrs. J. Swan Taylor, Johnstown; Mrs. Harry E. Wagner, Moxham; John Bender, Moxham; Agnes Bender, Moxham; Albert Bender, Greensburg; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ober, Hooversville, Charlie Miller, Davidsville; Ex-Sheriff, Isaiah Good, Somerset; Ex-Sheriff, Dickey Enoch Plough; Norman E. Knepper, Peter Dumbald, S.D. Dumbald, S. D. Shoemaher, of Somerset, Mr. and Mrs. Jerre Shaver, Friedens. |
