life in farming and the lumber business. He was active in the Republican party and in the Baptist Church. To Joseph and Mary (Bartlebaugh) Westover, the following children were born: Willis; M. C.; John L., the father of the subject of this sketch; Abraham, Thersey, and Jane.
John L. Westover began his business career as a lumber dealer and for a number of years was associated in business with his brothers, McClelland, Willis, and Abraham Westover. Later McClelland Westover became one of the largest lumber dealers in this section of the state, owning large tracts of land in Blacklick and Jackson Townships. He was the organizer of the Barnesboro Lumber Company. John L. Westover became interested in the hotel business at Spangler and for a number of years conducted the Aldine Hotel. He was a Republican and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. His widow was born at Ebensburg, and now resides at Spangler. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. John L. Westover; Hulda, died in 1908; J. Harrison, the subject of this sketch; Chloe, died in 1919, was the wife of Wilfred A. Lantzy, of Coalport, Pa., and they had one son, John Pershing; and Edna, died in 1913.
J. Harrison Westover received his early education in the schools of Hastings, and after his graduation from Hastings High School in 1904 he taught school in Susquehanna Township for two terms, after which he entered Bucknell University. He was graduated from the law department of Dickinson College in 1913, and the following year was admitted to the Cambria County bar, after which he established his practice at Spangler. He is a member of the Supreme and Superior Court, and from 1916 until 1918 was assistant district attorney of Cambria County. He is a director of the First National Bank of Spangler, a director of the Northern Cambria Water Company, and one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Bakerstown, and the Citizens Bank of Barnesboro.
In 1921 Mr. Westover was united in marriage with Miss Lovell Julia Binder, the daughter of E. M. and Amelia T. (Bearer) Binder, natives of Cambria County. Mr. Binder resides at Spangler.
Mr. Westover is a Republican, a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Chetromon Country Club, Ebensburg Golf Club, and Pennsylvania Society of New York. He is identified with the Cambria County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, and belongs to Delta Chi fraternity.
