    Mr. Shank is a Democrat. He has served as tax collector and school director of Adams Township, and has held various other township offices. He is a member of the Evangelical Church.




    Richland Township High School, of which Carl Lunquist is principal, is located at Geistown. It was erected in 1923 at a cost of $80,000, and is among Cambria County's most attractive and modern schools. It serves all students of high school age in Richland Township and has a high school enrollment of 75 pupils. The grade school occupies the same building and has an enrollment of 125 students. The building contains six large classrooms, library, well equipped gymnasium, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 500.
    Franklin Miller is in charge of the boys' athletics, and Miss Margaret Stull is director of girls' athletics.




    J. W. Fouch, retired, has served as justice of the peace of Salix for almost 35 years, and is a well known citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Somerset County, Pa., May 1, 1854, and is the son of William and Mary (Mull) Fouch.
    William Fouch was a native of Pennsylvania and died in 1858. He was a farmer. His widow was later married to Harry Landis. To Mr. and Mrs. Fouch one child was born, J. W., the subject of this sketch. He was the following half-sisters: Emma, Sarah, Lizzie, Ella, and Susie.
    J. W. Fouch received his education in the district school of Stony Creek Township, Somerset County, and worked at odd jobs until 1872. He then removed to Richland Township, Cambria County, and in October, 1876, he was engaged in farming for six years. He then conducted a blacksmith shop and wagon works at Alton, Pa., until 1893, when he removed to Salix, where he established a furniture and undertaking business. He has lived retired since February, 1926.
    On May 25, 1874, Mr. Fouch was united in marriage with Miss Lizzie Hershberger, the daughter of Jonas and Barbara Hershberger, of Somerset County. Mr. and Mrs. Fouch have no children.
    Mr. Fouch has been a lifelong Republican and has been active in the civic affairs of his community. He served as judge of elections for one year, as constable for three years, and as health officer for 15 years. For
