    Mr. Humphrey is a Republican and a member of the Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, a member of the United Commercial Travelers, Johnstown Council No. 303. Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey have been the owners and popular proprietors of the New Cambria Hotel at Ebensburg since March, 1924.




    Daniel J. Davis, who lives retired in Ebensburg, is a highly esteemed and substantial citizen of Cambria County. He was born in Blacklick Township, Cambria County, June 12, 1844 and is the son of John E. and Magdalene (Jones) Davis.
    John E. Davis was a native of Wales, born in 1812. He grew to manhood in his native land and after his marriage in 1838 emigrated to America and settled in Pittsburgh. Later they removed to Portsmouth, Ohio, and in 1843 located in Blacklick Township, Cambria County, where Mr. Davis purchased a farm of 180 acres. He disposed of it in 1869, but continued to farm in the same county, two miles east of Ebensburg. He died Jan. 16, 1882. He was a Republican and held many county offices.
    Daniel J. Davis grew up on his father's farm and in 1864 was employed in a rolling mill in Pittsburgh, where he remained for five years. He then purchased a farm of 145 acres in Cambria Township, which he successfully operated until the time of his retirement.
    On Dec. 31, 1868, Mr. Davis was united in marriage with Miss Jane Davis, a daughter of Richard B. Davis. Richard B. Davis was born in Montgomeryshire, Wales, in 1788, and died in Cambria Township, Oct. 20, 1872. His wife and two children died in Wales, and with his two other children, Edward and Jane, he emigrated to this country in 1836. Edward Davis died in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1849. In 1837 Richard B. Davis was married the second time to Miss Anna Bennett, the daughter of Richard Bennett, of Wales, and a prominent pioneer citizen of Cambria County. To them were born three sons and four daughters: Mary, married William Davis, of Ebensburg; Richard, was killed in action during the Civil war; Mrs. Daniel Davis; Anna, married William Griffiths, Pittsburgh; John, deceased, leaving a family; Sarah and Edward, died in infancy.
    After his first wife's death in 1904, Daniel J. Davis was united in marriage with Miss Anna J. Evans, a daughter of John J. and Eleanor (Jones) Evans, their marriage occurring Feb. 22, 1908. John J. Evans died Feb. 12, 1890, and his wife died Nov. 12, 1892. They were members
