is deceased. His widow lives in Cresson. Five children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Hackett, as follows: Paul, Ann, Nora L., Elizabeth and P. F.
    Mr. Hackett is a Republican, a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Elks Lodge.




    Dr. Joseph L. Paul is a well known dentist of Cresson and a representative citizen of Cambria County. He was born at South Fork, in Cambria County, Oct. 27, 1876, and is the son of Joseph S. and Elizabeth (Berkhart) Paul.
    Joseph S. Paul, deceased, was a native of Cambria County. He was born in Adams Township, June 4, 1837, the son of Jacob and Catherine (Stull) Paul. The family originally came to this country from Germany and settled in Pennsylvania. Joseph S. Paul began his active career as a farmer and lumberman and also worked at the trade as a carpenter. From 1862 to 1865 he was employed as fireman on the Pennsylvania Railroad, after which he was for four years a stationary engineer. In 1902 he was appointed postmaster of South Fork, an office which he held until his death in 1908. His widow, also a native of Cambria County, lives at South Fork. Mr. and Mrs. Paul had the following children: George A., born Jan. 3, 1862, died March 12, 1892; Elmer E., born Aug. 4, 1863, married Jennie Barber, lives at South Fork; Harrison L., born June 26, 1866, deceased; John M., born Sept. 27, 1867. lives in New York City; Christina, married Rev. J.A. Booser, lives at Myersdale, PA.; Anna E., married Emerson W. Border, lives at South Fork; Dr. Joseph L., the subject of this sketch; Dr. Charles E., a dentist, lives at Cresson; Clara M., married August Soupart, lives at Patton; and Earl C., married Tillie Cawthern, lives in Detroit, Mich.
    Dr. Joseph L. Paul was educated in the public schools of South Fork and at the Morrell Institute of Johnstown. He then learned telegraphy and in 1893 entered the service of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company. However, in 1898, he entered the Baltimore Dental College, from which he was graduated in 1901. He immediately began practice in Gallitzin, where he remained until 1917, at which time he removed to Cresson. Doctor Paul has an extensive and well deserved practice and has a fine suite of offices at 801 Front Street. He is also interested in the newly organized Sunlight Baking and Manufacturing Company of Cresson, which was
