886 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

The Citizens Deposit Bank of Gallitzin was organized in November, 1922, with Doctor Ferguson, president; John E. Burns, vice president; A.F. Hunt, cashier; Mr. Hunt was succeeded by Mr. Victor Smith, of Lilly, and Mrs. Smith by H.G. Wissinger, the present cashier. The directors are: A. Pelliccioni, Thomas Dingwall, Doctor Ferguson, John E. Burns. W.J. Hard, Thomas Meyers, N. Bertansetti, N. Cosgrove, Louis Isaacon, Samuel Pollock, Neal Davis and I.R. Campbell. The bank was organized with a capital stock of $50,000, which was later increased to $75,000.




    Paul S. Conrad, a member of the firm of H.F. Conrad and Brothers, Furniture and Undertaking, Gallitzin, was born in this town Nov. 13, 1892, the son of W.R. and Amanda (McIntosh) Conrad.
    W. R. Conrad was born in 1847 in Newry, Pa., and settled in Gallitzin in the early eighties and engaged in the undertaking and furniture business, which he carried on until his death in 1907. He is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Gallitzin. For many years he was secretary of the boro of Gallitzin, and after his death was succeeded in that position by his son, H.F., and in 1920 he was succeeded by Paul S., the subject of this sketch. Amanda (McIntosh) Conrad was born in Blair County in 1857, and died in 1902. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad were the parents of eight children, as follows: Jane, in religion, Sister M. Geraldine, died at the age of 47 years, and is buried at Baden, near Pittsburgh, Pa.; Margaret, the wife of George B. Anderson, lives in Philadelphia, where he is connected with the Saxmar Coal & Coke Company; H. F., a member of the firm of Conrad Brothers, is also engaged in the plumbing business, as well as fire insurance; Marie, the wife of M. J. Bracken, Johnstown, coal dealer; J.R., connected with the Citizens National Bank since 1906, resides at Latrobe; C.R., associated with his brothers in the undertaking company; G.J., in the electrical business, Main Street, Gallitzin; and Paul S., the subject of this sketch.
    Paul S. Conrad was reared and received his early education in Gallitzin. He attended the H.S. Eckels Embalming College in Philadelphia, and in 1914 entered the employ of his brother, H.F. Conrad, and in January, 1926, was admitted as a member of the firm.
    Mr. Conrad was married to Miss Laura C. Cooper, a native of Gallitzin. She died in 1921 and is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery. One child was born to this marriage, Paul J., born April 21, 1921.
