nected with the First National Bank of Beaverdale as cashier since its organization in March, 1919.
    The First National Bank at Beaverdale is among the leading and reliable banking institutions of this section of the state. Its resources amount to about $900,000. The directors are: Ivan Boucher, G. B. Davis, H. G. Diffenderfer, H. A. Brown, P. E. Malzi, H. W. Black, Andrew Buranowski, and Faber Beiter. The bank occupies a fine new building which was erected at a cost of $25,000.




    Rev. Michael Zamba. Ranking among the leading citizens of Portage is Rev. Michael Zamba, pastor of the Church of the Assumption. He was born in Johnstown, Sept. 6, 1893, and is the son of John and Anna (Toker) Zamba.
    John Zamba is a native of Austria-Hungary, where he was born in 1868. In early life he came to this country and settled in Johnstown, where he has since resided. He is a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. His wife died in 1918, at the age of 43, and is buried in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Johnstown. To Mr. and Mrs. Zamba 12 children were born, six of whom are living, as follows: Rev. Michael, the subject of this sketch; Joseph, Johnstown, Pa.; Rose, housekeeper for her brother, Rev. Zamba; Veronica, Agnes and John, all of whom reside at home.
    Rev. Michael Zamba spent his boyhood in Johnstown and attended the parochial schools. He was graduated from St. Procopius College at Lisle, Ill., and St. Francis Seminary, Loretta, Pa. After serving as assistant pastor at St. Stephen's Church in Johnstown for two years, Rev. Zamba was transferred to Colver, and later to Central City and Ralphton, Pa. He has been pastor of the Church of the Assumption in Portage since Feb. 1, 1923, and is well liked throughout Cambria County. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
    The Church of Assumption was organized in 1907, in Portage, and the ground and building was bought in 1909. It was used at that time as a public skating rink. The first pastor was Rev. F. Jevnik, and later Rev. Francis Horak, who remained from 1910 until 1912. He was followed by Rev. John Lach, who was here until 1916. Rev. Jevnik returned that year and remained until 1923, when Rev. Zamba took charge. The church building has been remodeled throughout. It is located at 1004 Main Street.
