    Mr. Jones was married July 19, 1906, to Miss Elizabeth Jones, of Wilmore. Mr. and Mrs. Jones have seven children, as follows: Ronald K., Raymond, Milton R. Hazel M., Dorothy Agnes, Rhoda E., and Warren Calvin.
    Politically, Mr. Jones is identified with the Republican party. He holds membership in the Evangelical Church and Knights of Pythias. Both he and his family have an extensive acquaintance in the community.




    Linton Groke. Among the leading and successful young business men of Portage is Linton Groke, A world war veteran, and president of the Peoples Auto Service Company. He was born here, Sept. 14, 1896, and is the son of Gustave H. R. and Alvina (Bruening) Groke.
    Gustave H. R. Groke, retired was born in Germany, Jan. 1, 1859, and is the son of August Groke and following children were born: Henry and William, both deceased; Ernestine, Charlotte, Herman, Amelia, Gustave H. R., William, and Robert. William Bruening, falther of Alvian (Bruening) Groke, was born in 1829 and died Oct 28, 1906. Gustave H. R. Groke was 12 years of age when his parents emigrated to this country and settled in Philadelphia. In 1879 they removed to Portage, where they have since resided. Mr. Groke was a machinist by trade, and in 1906 engaged in the hotel business as proprietor of the Exchange Hotel, Portage. In 1908 he went to Mexico, where he engaged in the automobile business for three years. Upon his return to Portage he operated a saw mill for four years and engaged in the automobiles business, establishing the business which is now conducted by his son. To Mr. and Mrs. Groke the following children were born: Alfred, died in 1918 at the age of 36 years; Oscar, killed in the mines in 1907 at the age of 22 years, was a student in the law department of Dickinson College; Amelia, died at the age of four years; Olga, married William Mickey, lives at Portage; Herbert, died in infancy; Laura, lives at home; and Linton, the subject of this sketch. Mr. Groke is a Republican, and has served on the city council for eight years and as president of the school board for six years. He holds membership in the Lutheran Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and
