994 HISTORY OF CAMBRIA COUNTY

    Otto Sann spent his boyhood in Germany and attended the schools there. At the age of 12 years he became interested in music and now ranks among the prominent bandmasters of the county. He organized the Sann Band in 1905 and the Johnstown Elks Band in 1907, and has been bandmaster of the Johnstown Reed Band since 1910. He has also been active in the organization of the Johnstown Municipal Band. His business connections in Johnstown are as mechanical engineer with the Lorain Steel Company.
    On May 15, 1902, Mr. Sann was united in marriage with Miss Emma Emmel, of Johnstown, and they have a daughter, Catherine. A son, Theodore, died in infancy.
    Mr. Sann is a Republican and a member of the German Lutheran Church and Masonic fraternity.




    Hinds Peevey is among the successful and representative business men of Johnstown, where he is president of the Penn Royal Oil Company. He was born at Huntsville, Ala., April 18, 1875, and is the son of Leroy Madison and Sarah Jane Peevey.
    Hinds Peevey received his education in the schools of Huntsville and in 1895 received his degree of Bachelor of Science from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. The following year he received his degree as Master of Science. After a year spent as tutor in civil engineering, Mr. Peevey entered Harvard law School, from which he was graduated in 1899. From May 1, 1900, until April 30, 1911, he engaged in the practice of law at Birmingham, Ala. He spent the following seven years in promoting various insurance enterprises. In June, 1918, he became interested in oil and gas production in West Virginia. In June, 1920, he organized the Penn Royal Oil Company of Johnstown, of which he has since served as president. All the properties of the company are located in West Virginia, and it has been one of the conspicuous successes in that particular line of business.
    Mr. Peevey was twice elected dictator of Johnstown Lodge L. O. O. M., in 1916 and 1919, and was a big factor in the upbuilding of the order in Cambria County. He is affiliated with the Blue Lodge A. F. & A. M., Royal Arch Chapter, Commandery, Knights Templar, Consistory 32nd degree and Shrine Temple, Birmingham, Ala.
