marriage taught school at Renova for four years, and at Martinsburg for 11 years. Mr. and Mrs. Kagarise have a daughter, Freida Miriam, born May 17, 1918. Peter E. Malzi is a well known citizen of Dunlo, where he has successfully engaged in business for the past 28 years. He was born in Johnstown, May 22,1877, and is the son of Ehredt andTheresa (Heims) Malzi. Ehredt Malzi, familiarly known as "Hatch," was born in Johnstown, where he engaged in the meat business for many years. He was also a hotel keeper. Mr. Malzi died in 1889 and his widow, who was born in Somerset County, Pa., lives in Geistown. Mr. and Mrs. Malzi had five children: Margaret, married F.J. Fox, lives at Dunlo; Peter E., the subject of this sketch; Carrie, married John Reiser, lives at Johnstown; Augusta, married S.A. Quinn, who died in 1917, and she later married James Clark of Johnstown. She died in 1922; and Bernard, who lives at Geistown. Peter E. Malzi attended St. Joseph's parochial school, as well as the public schools of Johnstown. At an early age he became interested in the meat business and for five years was employed in the Betterman Market. He spent a year with Joseph Hellstern and afterward located at Dunlo, where he established his present meat and grocery business in 1898. Mr. Malzi also owns and operates a fine farm of 225 acres in Cambria County. He is widely known as a breeder of registered cattle and specializes in the breeding of Guernsey, Jersey and Holstein stock. His son, C. J. Malzi, manages the farm. On July 26, 1900, Mr. Malzi was united in marriage with Miss Hertzinger, the daughter of Philip and Julia (Hetrick) Hertzinger, both deceased. Mr. Hertzinger was a well known hotel keeper of Johnstown during the early days. To Mr. and Mrs. Malzi were born four children: C. J., married Miss Catherine Boyle, andthey have a daughter, Kathleen; James and Kenneth, both at home; and Eleanor, who died in June, 1917. |
