was stationed at the University of Pittsburgh training detachment, headquarters company. He was discharged as a sergeant in the infantry. In December, 1910, he entered the employ of the Johnstown Trust Company as teller and in 1922 was appointed assistant treasurer
    In 1917 Mr. Rutledge was married to Miss Helen Trimble, a daughter of William and Daisy (Hochsten) Trimble. Mr. Trimble was a native of Westmoreland County, Pa., but is now a resident of Johnstown, where he is in the coal business. Mr. and Mrs. Rutledge have a daughter, Ann.
    Mr. Rutledge is a Republican, a member of the Presbyterian Church, American Legion and Johnstown F. & A.M. Lodge No. 538.




    Bernard V. Conway is a veteran of the World War and a progressive young business man of Johnstown. He was born in this city, Oct. 24, 1894, and is a son of Anthony and Elizabeth (Feeley) Conway.
    Both Anthony Conway and his wife were native of Mount Savage, Md. They were early settlers of Johnstown, where Mr. Conway was employed by the Lorain Steel Company for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Conway, deceased, were the parents of the following children: James and Peter, both deceased; Stephen J., Johnstown, a sketch of whom appears in this history; Mary, married John Garrity, lives in Johnstown; Frank, lives in Johnstown; Margaret, lives in Pittsburgh; William, lives in Johnstown; Bernard B., the subject of this sketch; John and A.J., who live in Johnstown; and Elizabeth, deceased.
    After completing his schooling, Bernard B. Conway began work in the local school mills. He became greatly interested in professional boxing and engaged in more than 100 matches, meeting such prominent Pennsylvania boxers as Barney McGuire, Roy Pryel, P. Hartley, D. Conlon, Johnny Barry, Johnny Ward, Joe Getz, Steve Pendro, Tony Zill, D. Sanders and Johnny King. In 1923 Mr. Conway engaged in business in Johnstown as a member of the firm of Frank & Conway, billiards and pool. The business located at 74 Fairfield Avenue.
    On Sept. 8, 1917, Mr. Conway volunteered for service in the World War and was sent to Camp Lee, Va., as a member of Company D, 305th Engineers, 80th Division. He saw active service in France for 17 months, taking part in eight important engagements. He was discharged as a first sergeant, June 19, 1919.
